LUCKNOW: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday blamed the recent wave of attacks against Uttar Pradesh and Bihar migrants, who fled his state in large numbers, to a well thought out conspiracy hatched by a Congress MLA.
He claimed that majority of the people arrested for fomenting trouble and targeting migrants were Congressmen. Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to take action against such elements, he said.
Rupani was in Lucknow to invite his UP counterpart Yogi Adityanath for the unveiling ceremony of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's statue on October 31.
Acknowledging that the people from all over India had contributed to Gujarat’s development, Rupani said, "This Gujarat is of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar (Vallabhbhai Patel) and (Prime Minister Narendra) Modji. It is a ‘Laghu Bharat’ (mini-India) and home for all the Indians where everyone's honour, safety and development is ensured."
"They (Congress workers) tried to disrupt the harmony in a state where everybody lives in peace and amity. People of Uttar Pradesh have contributed immensely to Gujarat’s development and that is why, we took immediate action against the people who attacked migrant workers," Rupani said, adding that so far over 700 people were arrested and more than half of them were connected to the Congress party.
"My government has foiled the opposition's evil designs and provided security to non-Gujaratis. Rahul Gandhi should take some steps in this direction, rather than tweeting and politicising the issue." Legal action would be initiated against the Congress MLA whose role was established in the spreading the trouble through his speeches, Rupani asserted.
