NEW DELHI: The Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh (RSS) maintained on Thursday that homosexuality is not compatible with nature even as it agreed with the Supreme Court that such relationships should not be a crime.
Meanwhile, the BJP maintained a stoic silence on the apex court’s verdict decriminalising Section 377 of IPC. The BJP leaders have been maintaining that it was all up to the apex court to deliver a verdict on the subject.
In a statement, RSS communication department head Arun Kumar stated he concurred with the Supreme Court’s verdict that homosexuality is not a crime. At the same time, Kumar maintained that same-sex marriages are unnatural.
Incidentally, the Sangh and its affiliates have long held that homosexuality is against the order of nature, and advocated social and psychological interventions to deal with the issue.
Kumar also maintained that the saffron outfit doesn't support homosexuality. He argued that the Indian society traditionally doesn't recognise same-sex relationships. The RSS communication department head argued that this topic should be discussed on a social- and psychological level.
On Twitter, RSS affiliate Swadeshi Jagran Manch co-convenor Ashwani Mahajan scorned at the same sex relationships getting decriminalised, saying he didn't accept the verdict of the apex court.
