INDORE: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday evening announced the removal of the Indore municipal commissioner following deaths caused by water contamination, and the suspension of two senior officials.

In a post on X following a review meeting, CM Yadav stated that his government would not tolerate any laxity regarding the tragedy and that strict action was being taken.

Indore municipal commissioner Dilip Kumar Yadav has been removed and reassigned to the state secretariat in Bhopal. The Chief Minister also ordered the suspension of Indore’s additional municipal commissioner, Rohit Sissoniya, and the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) in-charge superintending engineer, Sanjeev Shrivastava, for negligence of duties.

This action comes two days after the suspension of an IMC zonal officer and assistant engineer, and the termination of an in-charge sub-engineer.

CM Yadav held a meeting with mayors of all municipal corporations across the state, along with divisional commissioners, collectors, and municipal commissioners, directing them to ensure the availability of clean drinking water to citizens.

Earlier on Friday, the government informed the Madhya Pradesh High Court that the Bhagirathpura health crisis had been categorised as a "public health contingency", and that the situation had stabilised following emergency measures and continuous monitoring.

According to officials, at least four deaths have been confirmed as a result of the contamination.
