NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reiterated India’s strong condemnation of attacks on Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during a telephone conversation with Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as West Asia tensions continue to simmer.
The high-level exchange comes days after an Indian national was reportedly killed in an airstrike near Kuwait airport, raising concerns over the spillover effects of the regional conflict and the safety of Indian citizens in the Gulf.
According to an official statement issued after the call, the two leaders reviewed the evolving security situation in West Asia and exchanged views on the rapidly deteriorating regional environment.
“Prime Minister expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions and reaffirmed India’s strong condemnation of attacks on Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said.
PM Modi also reiterated India’s longstanding position that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving the crisis.
“The Prime Minister reiterated the call for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy for the earliest restoration of peace and stability,” the statement added.
The conversation highlights New Delhi’s increasing diplomatic engagement with Gulf nations as the conflict threatens regional security, energy supplies and the interests of millions of expatriate workers.
Kuwait hosts a large Indian diaspora, making their safety a key concern for the Indian government amid the ongoing hostilities.
During the call, Modi thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for its continued support of the Indian community.
“Prime Minister thanked His Highness the Amir for his personal attention to the continued well-being and the safety of the large Indian community in Kuwait,” the official statement highlighted.
The outreach also reflects India’s balancing act in a volatile region where it maintains close ties with multiple stakeholders while consistently advocating restraint and peaceful resolution of disputes.
As the conflict shows little sign of abating, New Delhi has intensified its diplomatic messaging, emphasising respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law, while closely monitoring the security situation affecting Indian nationals and its energy security across West Asia.
