BALLARI: The investigation into the alleged suicide of Ramesh KC, car driver of Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officer Bheema Nayak, has led the CID to a gunman of B Sriramulu, BJP MP from Ballari and close aide of former minister and mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy.
After Rajesh alleged in his suicide note that Nayak had laundered money for Reddy and had met Sriramulu, a team of CID officials on Tuesday detained Channabasava, a District Armed Reserve (DAR) constable and gunman of Sriramulu. He was questioned after his phone number showed up in the call log of Nayak.
H C Kishore Chandra, Director-General of Police, CID, told Express that Channabasava was not arrested but served a notice.
When asked about the contents of the notice, the CID chief refused to divulge details.
In his suicide note, Ramesh had alleged that Nayak helped Reddy convert Rs 100 crore worth of currency notes in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations into Rs 50, 100 and 2,000 denominations for a 20 per cent commission.
Reddy allegedly used the converted new notes to conduct the marriage of his daughter. Ramesh was found dead in a lodge in Maddur.
Ramesh had also alleged that on October 28 this year, Nayak met Reddy and Sriramulu at Parijatha Guest House and that the KAS officer agreed to pay Rs 25 crore to contest the Hagaribommanahalli Assembly seat in 2018 polls. The death note also alleged that on November 15 Nayak had given Rs 25 crore in new notes to Sriramulu at Woodland Hotel. Nayak, a special land acquisition officer with the Karnataka Housing Board, was arrested on Sunday in Kalaburagi.
