THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Going ahead with his farming and paddy cultivation initiatives, Agriculture Minister V S Sunil Kumar will launch paddy cultivation in the controversial Methran Kayal area. Paddy cultivation in an area of about 400 acres would begin on Thursday at 4 pm, said the Minister.

Stressing that the LDF Government is taking up paddy cultivation in a serious manner, the Minister said that so far  the process has been started in 5,967 acres of fallow land.  The Minister rejected the Opposition charge that in Aranmula paddy cultivation was done in private land.

“Efforts have also begun to reinstate the streams in the region. There was a road block as no one had come forward to take the reclaimed soil. That’s being addressed now,” the Minister said.
