KOCHI: The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) will launch a mobile App named ‘Fish Finder’ on Saturday, as part of its platinum jubilee celebrations.
The App, designed for identifying commercial reef/reef-associated fishes, will be launched by Governor P Sathasivam.

“The user-friendly App can be easily downloaded on smart-phones. The App features a search portal with the common names, and is useful for the general public, researchers and students in identifying fishes. Around 369 fishes belonging to 66 families can be identified using the App,” said CMFRI  principal scientist (Demersal Fisheries Division) Rekha J Nair, who developed the App.

“Though the App is not based on taxonomic characters, it can be used for scientific purposes,” she said.   The App can be downloaded from CMFRI website www.cmfri.org.in, and does not require internet connectivity for operation.
