KOCHI: In connection with its 20th anniversary, Hotel Le Meridien has launched various corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes for the conservation of backwaters. The programmes, named as ‘Save the Backwater’, were conducted in association with the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) and Maradu Municipality.

As a part of it, poster making competition for school students and awareness classes on the conservation of backwaters were conducted. Students from various schools in the city participated in the poster making competition. The awareness classes were led by Dr Shankar, Director, KUFOS and Jose Joseph, Director, Hi-Tech Bio Fertilizers. It was followed by cleaning of backwaters near the hotel by the staff and local people.

Sunila Siby, Chairperson, Maradu Municipality, distributed prizes to winners of the poster making competition. Abdul Jabbar P A, Vice Chairman of Maradu Municipality, Councillors K A Devassy and Disha Prathapan, Nilay Saran, Director, Sales and Marketing, Thejas Jose, General Manager and Vikas Sood, Director of Operations, Le Meridien were also present on the occasion.
