Recently I came across a Samskrita Subhashitam. Subhashitam means a proverb. It says: Yatha Chittam Tatha Vacho Yatha Vachasthatha Kriyaha| Chitte Vachi Kriyayam Cha Sadhoonameka Rupata|| (Just as your mind is, so do your words happen. Just as your words are, so are your actions.) For the good-natured souls, their mind, words and actions are in one flow. They do not think one thing, say another and do yet something else.
When you wish to organise your life and make a turn, the first thing you have to attend to is to reorganise your thoughts. In fact, this is the essence of the modern science of hypnotherapy where people turn towards the thought patterns and make changes and realignments to it in order to get relieved of a problem in life — be it obesity, ill-health, lack of finances or a basic sense of depression about life.
“It’s all in the mind,” you might have often heard. Then it should be really so easy to change our reality by changing the mind? Well, not exactly. For instance, if you are not happy with someone or something in your life, that lack of happiness has become such a gross and condensed thought that it is almost real now. It is as real as a human being—only the skin, bone and flesh is missing. It is a strong personality by itself. Just as it is not so easy to change a person, it is not as easy to change this unhappy personality too. If you make just even a small effort, for instance, telling yourself, “Just this moment, I will be happy”, then you’ve had it. The power of this personality is so strong that immediately you will have an experience of unhappiness that can shatter your momentary resolve. The mind for this reason is compared to a Vetala — a ghost that keeps going back to its place in the branch of a tree and repeating the same old story again and again, and going on asking questions.
So is there no hope then if a change is needed? Well there is, but you need so much courage to face reality. It can be difficult to change situations around you — the house you have, the neighbours you live with, the money that you receive or the food that you get to eat. It is easy to work on yourself, because there is no one else to protest or refuse except yourself. If you wish to have simple resolves in life like good health, good personal discipline like waking up early, meditating twice a day, expressing gratitude daily you can do it with these affirmations. “I am fit and enjoy good health.” “I wake up early in the morning and have a well-disciplined lifestyle.” “I find time to sit in silence by myself every day.” “I am cheerful and more so when I face odds in life.” “I am grateful for everything that I receive moment to moment.” —Swahilya Shambhavi
