Many a tech executive, while otherwise pretty brilliant, cannot seem to stop from putting their foot in their mouths. Anand Chandrasekher, until recently the Chief Marketing Officer of semiconductor giant Qualcomm, seems to be a perfect embodiment of this affliction. Often affectionately referred to as Anand “Things That Are Dumb” Chandrasekher after calling eight-core CPUs dumb, he has been reassigned from his position as the CMO after publicly proclaiming the 64-bit processor in the new iPhone 5S a gimmick, and later taking that statement back. Chandrasekher started his otherwise brilliant career after graduating from the Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, a master’s degree in engineering and operations research, and an MBA from Cornell’s Johnson Graduate School of Management. He joined Intel in 1988 and later occupied many important positions there. Over a 24-year career, Chandrasekher formed the Workstation Platform Group and served as its general manager.
Later as the vice president of Intel Architecture Group and general manager of the Intel Architecture Marketing Group, he led strategic planning and marketing activities for the company. After serving as a vice president of the Mobile Platforms Group in which capacity he delivered Intel Centrino Mobile Technology to the market, Chandrasekher worked as a general manager of the Ultra Mobility Group during which time he left Intel to join Qualcomm as its CMO.
