As the special discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor entered its second day in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the Pahalgam strike the “height of cruelty” and declared that terrorism and its perpetrators “won’t be spared.” Responding to the Opposition’s attacks, Modi said no country asked India to halt its response, and revealed that Pakistan's DGMO pleaded for a stop to the Indian offensive after suffering heavy losses: “Don’t hit us anymore, we can’t suffer any longer,” he quoted.
PM Modi also disclosed that on the night of May 9, US Vice President JD Vance tried calling him multiple times to warn of a major Pakistani strike. “I told him that if Pakistan attacks, our response will be much bigger—we’ll answer bullets with cannons,” he said.
Modi’s remarks came after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned why Operation Sindoor lasted only 22 minutes and challenged the PM to publicly call Donald Trump a liar over his repeated claims of mediating an India-Pakistan ceasefire. Gandhi also said the Opposition stood firmly with the government during the operation, even as it was mocked.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge raised concerns over the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan after the operation and criticised the PM for not rebutting Trump’s repeated claims of brokering the truce. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking in the Rajya Sabha, said Operation Sindoor sent a strong message not only to Pakistan but also to those who support terrorism, adding, “If Pakistan can’t act, India is ready to help.”
Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi lashed out at the government in the Lok Sabha, questioning the intelligence failure that led to the attack and asking why no security personnel were present at the site.

During the debate in Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that while India received global support, it was “unfortunate” that the Congress did not back the valour of Indian soldiers.
“Congress leaders targeted me for political gains, but their frivolous statements ended up discouraging our brave soldiers,” he said.
Modi also responded to remarks on India’s foreign policy during the debate, saying the country received global backing.
However, he added, “the valour of the brave jawans of my country did not get the support of Congress.”
Modi added that while the Opposition may get media headlines by attacking him, “this cannot earn them a place in the hearts of the people.”

PM Narendra Modi says, "Operation Sindoor is going on. Pakistan ne 'dussahas ki kalpana ki toh, usse karara javab diya jayega."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that on the night of May 9, the US Vice President attempted to reach him for nearly an hour while he was in a meeting with top military officials. “I was in a meeting with the armed forces, so I couldn’t take the call,” Modi said.
He added that he returned the call later, during which the Vice President warned him that Pakistan was planning a major offensive.
“My answer was clear, if Pakistan had such intentions, it would cost them dearly. If they attack, we will retaliate with a bigger strike,” the PM stated.
During Operation Sindoor, Pakistan launched more than 1,000 missiles and drones at India, all of which were destroyed mid-air, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. He added that the world is now praising the efficiency and strength of India’s air defence systems.
"Today, when there is no shortage of evidence and everything is clearly visible before our eyes, this is the state of affairs. One wonders, if there had been no evidence, what would these people (Opposition leaders) have done? There are moments that bring pride to the nation, times that reflect our strength, and it’s equally important to acknowledge those. Our air defence system is being talked about around the world. Modi slammed Opposition leaders for raising doubts over the timing of Operation Mahadev, during which Indian forces neutralised the Pahalgam attackers.
“While our forces eliminated the attackers in Operation Mahadev yesterday, some in the Opposition questioned why it happened yesterday only,” Modi said, expressing frustration. “Kya ho gaya hai inhe?” (What has happened to them?) he remarked.

He also slammed the UPA for granting “most favoured nation” status to Pakistan even as it continued to sponsor terror. “Congress’s love for Pakistan hasn’t stopped,” Modi remarked.
He said trade continued while victims of the 26/11 attacks waited for justice.
Modi intensified his attack on the Opposition, questioning who signed away India’s rights over the Indus River. “It was Jawaharlal Nehru who signed the Indus Waters Treaty, giving 80% of the water to Pakistan,” he said. Calling it a “big betrayal,” Modi added, “Someone explain to me—what kind of intelligence and diplomacy was this?”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his criticism of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru over the Indus Waters Treaty, claiming Nehru not only signed away India's rights but also offered crores of rupees to Pakistan to build canals. He also added that Operation Sindoor still on and Pakistan is on notice.
Modi thanked all-party delegations for putting India’s stance on Operation Sindoor in front of the world. “The country now has a “Sindoor spirit”- which we saw when our representatives went to tell the world about India’s side,” he said.
Without taking names, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the Congress, saying, “Some leaders have even been barred from speaking in the House.” His remarks were seen as a reference to senior Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tewari, who were reportedly excluded from the party’s speakers’ list.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Congress leader and former Home Minister P. Chidambaram questioned why India agreed to a ceasefire with Pakistan following Operation Sindoor. He said while the operation was successful, “whether it was decisive, only time will tell.”
