KOCHI: A spectacular Mridangamela, featuring no less than 101 little artistes, will be staged on Monday, 23rd February, at the Ernakulam Siva temple. The ages of the participants are anything between 3 and 17. The mela, which is being held in connection with the Sivarathri, will be from 9.30 AM to 11 AM.

The performance will feature a blend of the South Indian rhythms aaditalam, roopakam, mishram and khandam with Hindustani styles. These will continue from one to the other seamlessly, and will be based on the primary beat of the instrument- ‘Tha, Thi, Thom, Na’. A unique feature of the mela is precisely this aspect. The coordinator of the mela is Vikraman Namboodiri, director of Korambu Mridanga Kalari and son of Korambu Subramanian Namboodiri , founder of the Kalari.
