NEW DELHI: A court here Friday convicted Sher Singh Rana for killing bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi in 2001. Following is the timeline of the murder case:

July 25, 2001: Phoolan Devi, then Samajwadi Party MP from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, is shot dead outside her residence at Ashoka Road in New Delhi.

July 27, 2001: Prime accused Sher Singh Rana is arrested from Dehradun.

July 28 and 29, 2001: Phoolan Devi's PSO, who sustained serious bullet injuries, records his statement before police.

Oct 23, 2001: Delhi Police files chargesheet against Sher Singh Rana and 11 others.

Sep 18, 2002: Court frames charge against the accused.

Feb 17, 2004: Rana runs away from Tihar Jail.

June 2, 2006: Rana is arrested in Kolkata.

Nov 13, 2013: One of the accused dies in Tihar jail.

July 16 2014: Court reserves order.

Aug 8, 2014: Court convicts Rana; 10 accused are acquitted.
