3,000 People Hit by Flood in Assam

Around 3,000 people in Gohpur town were affected today when the embankment of Satrang river was breached by flood water.

TEZPUR: Around 3,000 people in Gohpur town were affected today when the embankment of Satrang river was breached by flood water.

According to district administration officials, about 150 metre of embankment in the river near Gohpur and Satrang panchayat area was washed away this morning and river water started entering the town.

The Satrang flows down from Arunachal Pradesh and is a tributary of Sulangi river, which flows into Brahmaputra.

Due to the flood, residents of ward number 2, 3 and 4 have been affected in Gohpur, and villages on east and north of Satrang have been affected.

Heavy rain in Arunachal Pradesh during the last couple of days have resulted in flood in Satrang and breach of the embankment, officials said.
