FARIDABAD: A student of a private university here is among one of the winners of a prestigious global contest hosted by Microsoft, as a mobile application developed by him was judged beneficial for dementia patients.
15 projects were selected from the world over in the competition, out of which five were selected, which include that of Roopam, the student of Manav Rachna University here.
Dr Prashant Bhalla, president, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, congratulated Roopam on his achievement, calling it "a moment of immense honor and pride."
Roopam has been awarded for creating a real-time tracking system called 'Emancipator' to help people suffering from dementia and related disorders.
The project Emancipator consists of a mobile app that alerts both the patient and caregiver if the patient leaves certain boundaries, and it offers a combination of voice navigation and additional alerts to help guide the person back home safely.
'YouthSpark Challenge for Change' is a competition organized by Microsoft that encourages young people, who are passionate about social causes, to find ways to spark good in their communities.
The competition was held last week and the results were announced on May 27.
Roopam would be awarded with a leadership development trip to Nicaragua to learn about creating change, USD 2,500 cash to help turn his ideas into a reality, a Windows Phone, and the opportunity to serve as a Youth Spark Advocate from India.
