NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha witnessed ruckus on Thursday after the Left MPs protested against the BJP leaders raising the issue of political violence in the state. The CPI (M) leader in the House P Karunakaran objected to the BJP MPs taking names of the leaders of the Left outfits who are not members of the House.

“The BJP MPs on Wednesday took names of the CPI (M) leaders of Kerala and accused them of political violence. Since the persons are not members of this House, they cannot defend themselves against the accusations,” said Karunakaran.

With the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan noting that the issue had already been dealt with in the House on Wednesday and therefore there was no need to raise it further, all the Left MPs were on their feet. Karunakaran lamented that while the BJP MPs were allowed to speak for half an hour he wasn’t allowed to make his submission in the House.

With the ruckus prevailing in the House, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings.

The BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi had raised the issue of political violence in Kerala on Wednesday. She had stated that Kerala has slipped from “God’s own country to a forsaken country”. While giving details of the political killings in the state, she claimed that the democratic process has been subverted in Kerala.
