SRINAGAR: Stone pelting youths clashed with security forces on Thursday in this summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir against what they called "nocturnal raids" in Soura area of Srinagar.

The youths flung stones in Anchar area, police said.

"Security forces handled the mob with restraint using tear smoke," a police officer said in Srinagar.

Locals said the protests were carried out against night-time raids by the security forces.

The area had witnessed violent clashes last year in which a senior police officer had sustained serious injuries.

Locals had last year also alleged that youths were unable to sleep in their homes fearing arrest by the security forces on the lookout for suspected militants and their supporters.
