Bhopal gangrape case: Accused carrying Rs 10,000 reward nabbed

The GRP has arrested three men for allegedly abducting and raping the woman near the Habibganj railway station when she was returning from her coaching classes on October 31.

BHOPAL: The fourth accused in the October 31 gangrape of a cop couple's daughter was arrested from Bhopal's Salaiya area on Monday.

The arrest came in the evening just a few hours after the state police declared a Rs 10,000-bounty on the accused who had been on the run.

According to Bhopal Government Railway Police (GRP) superintendent of police (SP) Ruchi Vardhan, the arrested man is a 35-year-old daily wage labourer who hails from Narsinghpur district of the state, but has been living away since many years.

"Our team was working on specific inputs and finally succeeded in nabbing him from his hideout in Bhopal's Salaiya area. He was first detained and questioned in detail, after which he confessed to have committed the crime with the three others," the SP GRP told the New Indian Express.

Soon after the incident, the other three accused were arrested. One of the alleged rapists was nabbed by the 19-year-old's mother and her relatives and handed over to the police.

On October 31, The 19-year-old girl civil service aspirant was allegedly gangraped by four men near the Habibganj railway tracks while she was returning from her coaching class. 

The incident by the delay by police in lodging the case against the accused on the pretext of police station jurisdictional issues. The case of gang rape and loot was finally lodged against the accused on November 1 evening by the Habibganj GRP.

Since then three SHOs and two sub-inspectors of Habibganj police station, Habibganj GRP station and MP Nagar police station have been suspended. Also, the CSP-MP Nagar area Kulwant Singh and the SP GRP Bhopal Anita Malviya have been attached to the state police headquarters in the matter.
