Three villagers killed in lightning strike in Chhatisgarh

The victims were returning home after working at paddy fields in Dongri village when heavy rain started and the lightening struck them when they took shelter in an under-construction greenhouse.

KORBA: Three villagers, including a woman, were killed and as many others injured when lightning
struck them in Chhattigsarh's Korba district, police said today.

The victims were returning home after working at paddy fields in Dongri village when heavy rain started last evening, station house officer (SHO), Katghora, S S Rajput said.

The villagers took shelter in an under-construction green house when lightning struck them, leaving three of them dead and as many others injured, he said.

The deceased were identified as Chandrapal Singh Kanwar (47), Budhwar Singh Kanwar (50) and Sumitra Bai (55), the SHO said.

The injured persons were admitted to a local community health centre. However, one of the injured persons was shifted to Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences at Bilaspur for further treatment, he said.

The local administration officials visited the victims in the hospital and assured them of providing necessary assistance, as per the rules, Rajput said.

Katghora is located around 30 kms from Korba, which is is at distance of about 220 kms from the state capital Raipur.
