RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh police have arrested the son of a senior bureaucrat of Odisha for allegedly creating a fake Facebook profile of a girl and uploading obscene comments and morphed images.

Khuswant Naik, son of Meghanad Naik, additional secretary (Home) of Odisha, was brought to Raipur Friday on a transit remand.

“He was arrested under the Information Technology Act after a Raipur girl lodged a police complaint about a fake Facebook profile created on her name and objectionable contents were posted therein. He will be produced in court today," Raipur additional superintendent of police Vijay Agrawal told the New Indian Express.

According to the police Khuswant, an engineering student created the fake account. She had befriended with him on Facebook months ago.

The girl was shocked when her friends inquired about the new profile with indecent content. She was ignorant about who forged the account and lodged a police complaint against an unknown person.

The Raipur police took assistance of the cyber crime cell and traced the IP address of the originating source from which the fake profile was created.

The police said that being the son of a bureaucrat, who is a officer, they faced some initial resistance when Khuswant was arrested. “To seek transit remand of the accused for further investigation, he was produced in court at Bhubaneswar”, the ASP said.

He was taken into custody from his home under the Section 67 of the IT Act (posting obscene material in electronic form), the police said.
