LUCKNOW:  A day after the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) directed the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) to lodge an FIR against four senior professors for allegedly harassing a faculty member, management deferred the move until after the new director takes over on April 18. The decision follows strong protests and outrage by the members of Institute Advisory Committee against any legal action on the professors.

Meanwhile, Prof Rajiv Shekhar, who was named in harassment complaint, has taken over as director, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad while two faculties in the Aerospace Engineering department — Prof Deopam Das and Prof Chandrashekhar Upadhyaya —were removed from Department Faculty Advisory Committee. Upadhyaya was named in the complaint filed by the Dalit faculty alleging caste-based discrimination along with Ishan Sharma, Sanjay Mittal and  Rajiv Shekhar.
