BENGALURU: The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has set up a board of investigation to look into the crash of a Su-30 MKI aircraft produced at HAL Nashik which occurred on Wednesday morning.
The aircraft, which was being piloted by Wing Commander Prashant Nair accompanied by Squadron Leader L Biswal (flight test engineer), crashed while on a sortie in Ozar area of Nashik at 11 am.
Both pilots ejected safely and parachuted to the ground.
"The board of investigation has been ordered to find out the exact cause," a HAL spokesperson said.
Wednesday's crash is the eight such incident since the induction of the Sukhoi fighter jet into the Indian Air Force.
The SU30 MKI is a heavy, all-weather, long-range fighter developed by Sukhoi and built by the HAL.
Last year, two SU30 MKI jets crashed within months of each other in Barmer in Rajasthan and near Tezpur in Assam killing the crew in the latter incident. ends
