NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday drew a parallel between the business motto, the consumer is always right, and governance, where he said, “the citizen is always right.” The PM’s remark came at Rozgar Mela, which he addressed via videoconferencing. He said his government had effected broad changes in the recruitment process by making it more streamlined and time-bound while boosting transparency and speed.
He distributed electronically 71,426 appointment letters to recruits in different government departments, saying the ongoing ‘Rozgar Mela’ exercises have become an identity of his government. The PM said that transparent recruitment and promotions generate trust among the youth.
Motivating the appointees after distributing the appointment letters, Modi said, “Serve the country with a service attitude because citizen is always right and adopt technology-driven methods to improve efficiency.” He said self-learning through technology is an opportunity for today’s generation. “India is now witnessing fast growth leading to a massive expansion of self-employment opportunities,” he said.
The PM said lakhs of families would get government jobs in the near future through ‘Rozgar Mela.’ The PM had last year announced the ‘Rozgar Mela’ drive to generate jobs for 10 lakh people. Addressing the recruits, the PM said that a huge number of recruits are from families where no one was in government service. “Thanks to a transparent and clear recruitment process, jobs are reaching these families”, he said.
Appreciating growing investments, he said that the massive investment in the infrastructure sector has boosted employment and self-employment opportunities in the country. The appointees, recruited from across the country, will join various positions under the Central government like junior engineers, loco pilots, technicians, inspectors, sub-inspectors, constables, stenographers, junior accountants, grameen dak Sevak, income tax inspectors, teachers, nurses, doctors, social security officers, among others.
