IMPHAL: The Manipur government has revoked its earlier decision to reopen educational institutions from Monday.

A fresh order issued late on Sunday stated, “In supersession of the Government Order… dated 24.11.2024, it is hereby ordered that all Government Educational Institutions/Government Aided Colleges under Higher & Technical Education Department, Government of Manipur including State Universities shall continue to be closed for 2 days w.e.f 25.11.2024 (Monday) to 26.11.2024 (Tuesday).”

The order, issued in consultation with the Home Department, did not provide a reason for the decision.

Sources suggest the move was prompted by concerns over possible unrest following the release of post-mortem reports of three persons killed in Jiribam, which reportedly contain chilling details.

Previously, the government had announced that normal classes for all schools—government, government-aided, private, and central—would resume on November 25.

Educational institutions in the Imphal valley and Jiribam district have been shut for the past week due to widespread protests triggered by the killing of three women and three children in Jiribam.
