NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Tuesday extended the interim bail of Jammu and Kashmir MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid, in a terror-funding case till October 28.
Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh of Patiala House Courts granted the extension due to the health condition of Rashid’s father.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) confirmed that it had verified the related documents and raised no objections to the extension request.
The court also postponed the decision on Rashid’s regular bail plea to the same date. Rashid’s lawyer assured the court that this would be the final request for an interim extension, adding that the NIA had not accused his client of violating any bail conditions.
Oon September 10, Court initially granted Rashid interim bail till October 2 which was later extended. Rashid gained prominence by defeating former CM Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla. Earlier, Rashid, who represents the Baramulla constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, was granted custody parole on July 5 to take his oath of office in Parliament after winning the 2024 LS polls.
Rashid named surfaced during questioning of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who was nabbed for ‘funding’ to terrorist organizations.
