PM Modi emphasizes significance of BRICS as platform for dialogue, discussion on key global issues

Modi is set hold a series of bilateral meetings including with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the margins of the BRICS.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Kazan to participate in the 16th BRICS Summit, following an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin. In his departure message, shared by the PMO, Modi stated, "I am departing today on a two-day visit to Kazan at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin."

According statement, shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Modi emphasized the significance of BRICS as a vital platform for dialogue on key global issues, including developmental agendas, reformed multilateralism, climate change, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges.

Modi also highlighted India's commitment to the BRICS framework, noting the group's role in addressing pressing global challenges and fostering collaborative solutions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday left on a two-day visit to Kazan to attend the 16th BRICS Summit following the invitation of the President of the Russian Federation.

Reflecting India's concerns with BRICS, the PM said, "India values the close cooperation within BRICS which has emerged as an important platform for dialogue and discussion on issues concerning the global developmental agenda, reformed multilateralism, climate change, economic cooperation, building resilient supply chains, promoting cultural and people to people connect, among others".

Modi further added that the expansion of BRICS has increased its inclusivity and agenda for the global good. He praised the recent expansion of BRICS, which has enhanced its inclusivity and broadened its agenda for global welfare.

The Prime Minister stated, "The expansion of BRICS with the addition of new members last year has added to its inclusivity and agenda for the global good."

The visit to Kazan aims to build on discussions held during the previous Annual Summit in Moscow in July 2024. Modi expressed his intention to strengthen the "Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership" between India and Russia, reaffirming the importance of bilateral ties in the context of the broader BRICS collaboration.

As he looks forward to engaging with other BRICS leaders during the summit, Modi's participation underscores India's proactive role in multilateral engagements and its dedication to collective efforts that address global issues.
