Girl burnt alive by jilted lover

IN a shocking incident, an 18-year-old girl of Patharchudi village under K Nuagaon police limits in Ganjam district was burnt alive by a youth of the village on Thursday night.

BERHAMPUR: IN a shocking incident, an 18-year-old girl of Patharchudi village under K Nuagaon police limits in Ganjam district was burnt alive by a youth of the village on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Santosini Gouda.

The accused, Kanha Gouda, allegedly poured kerosene on Santosini and set her ablaze when she was alone in her house, police said. On hearing her screams and noticing the house burning,  neighbours rushed in to find the girl engulfed in flames. They rushed her to a local hospital where doctors declared her brought dead. The girl’s brother Bijay and mother Kuntala, who were away from the village during the incident, reached home on learning about the incident and later lodged a complaint with police. Bijay alleged the involvement of Kanha, following which police have detained him for interrogation. SDPO Prakash Chandra Jena suspected one-sided love affair as the reason behind the gruesome act. Investigation is on, he added.
