Former DG Binoy  Behera passes away

Former DG of Police Binoy Kumar Behera passed away here on Saturday evening. The 60-year-old IPS officer fell ill a day after he retired from service on October 31 and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

BHUBANESWAR: Former DG of Police Binoy Kumar Behera passed away here on Saturday evening. The 60-year-old IPS officer fell ill a day after he retired from service on October 31 and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He is survived by his wife and two sons.A Post-Graduate in English Literature from University of Delhi, Behera joined the All India Services in 1982 and went on to serve in important assignments. 

He was the first Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate when it came into being in 2008. As the Chairman and Managing Director of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) in mid 2000, he was instrumental in the turn-around of the loss-making PSU which went on to be a case-study in Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.A native of Kalahandi, Behera was a keen nature lover and had a PhD in Man-Elephant Conflict which is a critical issue in eastern India. Condolences have poured after the report of his demise.
