BHUBANESWAR: Nearly eight days after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men in uniform in Koraput district, Odisha Police on Wednesday sent one of the suspects for lie-detection test at the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) here.According to police sources, the youth had accompanied the victim, a Class IX student of a Government Welfare School at Sarispadar, to Kunduli market to obtain passport size photographs and her Aadhaar card.However, outcome of the polygraph test was not known as the cops remained tightlipped.
Police has indicated that lie-detection tests will be conducted on suspects who are frequently changing their statements.Earlier, DGP Dr RP Sharma asserted that investigation has made positive progress and said police have got certain leads. While police is conducting interrogation, the police chief added that involvement of security personnel or Maoists has not been established yet.
Koraput Police had earlier detained four persons in connection with the case, but three of them were later released. The victim’s family had stated that all the detained persons are their relatives.
Meanwhile, after recording the preliminary statement of the victim, police might again take her statement after she is discharged from hospital. Sources said, the victim is giving contradictory statements about the incident.
The girl, who is a native of Musaguda village under Pottangi police limits, had alleged that she was gang-raped by four unidentified persons in Lanjiguda forest while returning from Kunduli. So far, no breakthrough has been achieved in the case.
