BALASORE: Author Hiranmayee Mishra has been selected for the Kanhei Katha Puraskar-2018 for her outstanding contribution to Odia fiction and other literary activities.

The award instituted by Kanheilal Das Smruti Sansad in memory of the writer is given to an Odia fiction writer every year. Das was a trend-setter in Odia fiction in 70s.

Spokesperson of the organisation Krushna Kumar Mohanty said the award will be presented on June 27, the birth date of the writer, at Balasore on the occasion of 71st Kanheilal Das Jayanti Samaroh. Mishra, an Utkal University alumnus, has authored several original books in Odia and English as well. A lecturer in Political Science at UN College, Adaspur in Cuttack district, she writes novel, poetry and essay on various issues.

She is a recipient of Katha Nabaprativa award, Bharatiya Bhasa Parishad Youth Award, Bhubaneswar Pustak Mela Fiction Award, Kadambini Best Fiction Award, Timepass Booker Puraskar, Bhubaneswar Behera State Fiction Award and many more.

The writer has 12 books to her credit. The books include Prathama, Gotie Barsaratira Kahani, Kinnarira Kabya, Basnayita Rati, Nila Rangara Nisha, Bibhorbela (poetry), Kete Dure Mora Priya Desha (Travelogue), Megha Pakhira Geeta (Novel) and Negotiating privately for an effective role in public space: A case study of women in panchayats of Orissa.
