Shillong, Dec 4 (PTI) Two ultras of the outlawed GaroNational Liberation Army (GNLA), who had fled during anencounter with the police, have surrendered to the police inMeghalayaÂ’s South Garo Hills district, police said today.

The duo, who were close to GNLA chief Sohan D Shira,had surrendered in Baghmara police station yesterday eveningbut did not submit any arms, superintendent of police A Sangmasaid.

They had escaped along with Shira during the encounterwith the police on November 16 at Halwa Atong village.

They got separated during the police combingoperations. They trekked for days and arrived at Gittimggrevillage where they contacted church leaders for theirsurrender, which took place yesterday, Sangma said.

Shira is still absconding, the SP said.
