Mandsaur (MP), Jan 12 (PTI) A major tragedy wasaverted at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh today when thirtystudents were rescued after the school bus they weretravelling in caught fire, police said.
City Superintendent of Police R M Shukla said the bus,belonging to a private school, caught fire at the StationBus Square with 30 students on board today afternoon.
Onlookers and police personnel rescued them quickly,he said.
The documents of the bus, including its `fitnesscertificate', were up to date, but no first-aid box and fireextinguisher were found inside, he said.
Police arrested driver Rakesh Joshi, while theRegional Transport Officer cancelled the fitness certificateof the vehicle, he added. The bus is 12 years old, he said.
On January 5, four students of Delhi Public School(DPS) and the driver were killed when a speeding school busran into a truck at Kanadiya by-pass in Indore.
Following the accident, the transport departmentinitiated a drive against the school buses which do not meetsafety norms. PTI COR ADU MASKRK.
