KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday directed the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESI) to issue 'ward of insured person' certificate to a student from Thrissur for claiming admission to MBBS/BDS course against the quota earmarked for the wards of insured persons under the Employees State Insurance Act, in the medical colleges run by the Employees State Insurance Corporation.

The court issued the order on an appeal filed by P P Vishnu of Mannuthy, Thrissur, challenging the Single Judge's order dismissing the plea of the petitioner. The Single Judge had observed that if the petitioner could not have preferred applications for grant of the certificate within the time stipulated in the admission notice, it was due to lack of diligence on his part and he could not, therefore, blame anybody for the same. Praveen K Joy, counsel for the petitioner, said he was entitled to reservation. The non-issuance of the certificate due to delay may cause irreparable injury, he said. The court posted the case on July 13.
