CHENNAI: Leander Paes and Janko Tipsarevic bagged the doubles title in the 2012 Chennai Open on Sunday.

The Indo-Serbian combination got the better of Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich of Israel 6-4, 6-4. It was Paes’ sixth doubles title here, and first with a different partner.

With the crowd rooting for him, Paes started the season on a triumphant note for the second straight year. It was his 48th career title and augurs well for the Australian Open, where he will be partnering Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek. Paes will be looking the first Grand Slam of the year, which is one missing link in his CV.

After losing a nail-biting singles final, Tipsarevic ended the first tournament of the year on a winning note.
