Dempo Sports Club extend contracts of senior players

Express News Service

Dempo Sports Club has extended the contracts of senior Indian players including Clifford Miranda, Samir Naik, Mahesh Gawli, Peter Carvalho and Cresson Antao, club officials announced. The move comes after the club completed two high profile signings, roping in former Manchester City defender Simon Colosimo and West Ham academy product Billy Mehmet, during the last one week.

Clifford, who joined Dempo from Tata Football Academy in 2001, is currently the captain of the team. “There is no reason for me to leave the club. We have a great team backed by passionate management,” he said. Dempo coach Arthur Papas said that it was important to extend Clifford’s contract. “I was able to observe Clifford over the last 12 months and he epitomizes the traits required for Dempo.”

The club’s final list of players for the 2013-14 I-League is expected to be declared by the end of this week.
