MUMBAI: The under-renovation Wankhede stadium, one of the venues for the 2011 Cricket World Cup, may not have been able to stage the Ranji Trophy tie between Mumbai and Assam, but the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is confident that the development will not have any impact on the mega event.
"Almost 80-85 percent of the work is over. Work on the outfield too has been completed by almost 90 per cent. The stadium will be ready well before the World Cup," MCA joint-secretary Lalchand Rajput told PTI.
Work on clearing the debris and other materials from the ground is still going on, he admitted, but refused to comment on when the entire work would be completed.
Rajput said a decision on practice matches at the Wankhede stadium will be soon taken by the MCA.
Apart from the April 2 final, Wankhede will host two league matches during the World Cup -- New Zealand vs Canada on March 13 and Sri Lanka vs New Zealand on March 18.
