DUBAI: Pakistan took firm control of the first test on Saturday with Ahmed Shehzad striking a brilliant century to extend his team's lead over Australia to a formidable 382 runs at tea on the fourth day.
Shehzad was unbeaten on 128 with 10 fours and four sixes while first innings centurymaker Younis Khan was not out on 67 as Pakistan progressed to 231-1 at tea.
The two batsmen defied Australia in a 160-run second wicket stand as Pakistan, which had a 151-run first innings lead, lost the sole wicket of Azhar Ali (30) after resuming on 38-0.
Shehzad raised his century off 208 balls with an elegant straight driven boundary off Peter Siddle, who he hit for a four and successive sixes in one over.
