BRISBANE: Alize Cornet of France stunned second seed Dominika Cibulkova 6-3, 7-5 to send the Slovakian world number five crashing out of the Brisbane International on Thursday.

Cornet was in irresistable form as she blunted everything Cibulkova threw at her to reach the semi-finals of the season-opening WTA tournament.

The Frenchwoman, ranked 41 in the world, served for the match at 5-2 and 5-4 only for Cibulkova to break back both times.

But at 5-5 Cornet broke Cibulkova again and this time she held on to win in 123 minutes.

She will play the winner of the later quarter-final between Svetlana Kuznetsova and Garbine Muguruza for a place in Saturday's final.
