HYDERABAD: Senior Congress leader and former chief minister N Janardhan Reddy was today unanimously elected to the Rajya Sabha.

As today was the last day for withdrawal of nominations, the officials announced Janardhan Reddy unanimously elected to the Rajya Sabha as no other person filed papers for the lone seat for Rajya Sabha from the State.

The by-election was necessitated as the TDP Rajya Sabha member C Ramachandraiah resigned and joined Praja Rajyam Party. Janardhan Reddy will continue as Rajya Sabha member for 14 months.

Congress party decided to send Janardhan Reddy to the Upper House, as it was not willing to give Lok Sabha ticket to him in the ensuing elections.
