TIRUPATI: Some unidentified miscreants attacked and slit the throat of Krishna Reddy (20) with blades while he was jogging at the Tarakarama Stadium of Sri Venkateswara University in the wee hours of Monday.

Taking notice of the people coming for help hearing the shouts of the victim, the miscreants fled the spot, leaving Reddy in a pool of blood.

The passers-by, who rushed to the spot, immediately took the youth to SVR Ruia Government Hospital where an emergency surgery was performed on him. His condition is reported to be stable.

Krishna Reddy hails from Kodumu Upparapalle in Penagalur mandal in Kadapa district and is in the final year at Gayatri Degree College here. He is living in a rented room near Town Club along with his cousin Srikanth.

According to West Police Station sub-inspector Sarath Chandra, Srikanth’s parents are working in Kuwait and send money to Reddy who has been acting as guardian of Srikanth.

Reddy has been taking care of the expenses of his cousin, who is studying engineering at a private college.

Srikanth has developed a grudge against Reddy because he could not digest the latter’s control over his expenses.

He even suspects Reddy of misusing `his’ money sent by his parents from Kuwait. Srikanth vacated the room on Sunday and his whereabouts are not known.

Based on the information provided by Reddy’s parents who reached the hospital here, the police are suspecting the hand of Srikanth behind the murder attempt on Reddy.
