GUNTUR: A woman committed suicide by consuming pesticide on the premises of the district court here today on being turned down by her friend to marry her. The woman, Ganti Nirmala (35), is a resident of Ganesh Puram in Kothapet of Guntur town. According to the local police, Nirmala was living with her friend Adda Sridhar in Guntur town for sometime after taking a divorce from her husband, Srinivasa Rao, two years ago. However, When she insisted Sridhar to marry her, differences cropped up between the two and they parted ways.
Nirmala lodged a complaint against Sridhar at Kothapeta Family Court a year ago and the final hearing was scheduled on Monday.
However, when Sridhar came to the court to attend the session, she again pleaded him to marry her. When he refused her proposal, Nirmala consumed pesticide and collapsed on the court premises. Nirmala breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the Guntur Government Hospital.
