HYDERABAD: Despite the vastness of the subcontinent and its varied cultures, it is only through epics in popular forms that people are exposed to ethics, Hariprasad Badruka has said.
Addressing a gathering at the launch of the book, `Ethics and Epics’ written by Prayaga Ramakrishna and translated by D Ranga Rao, here today, the honorary secretary of Badruka Group of Educational Institutions said that it was a welcome move to see such work coming even in these days of fast-paced life.
``Earlier, some of these texts were not available for every section of the society. With availability of these texts in local languages and in simple English everyone without barriers will become knowledgeable,’’ he said.
Chairman of the AP State Finance Corporation J Rambabu, the chief guest at the function, said that time and again the best way to propagate ethics had proven to be through epics.
``Under the pretext of reciting puranas, elders used to convey moral values and ethics to kids and adults alike. Even in this globalising world, this is the best way to implant ethics in the coming generations,’’ he said and lauded the efforts of the author and translator for their work. Earlier, the retired IAS officer released the book and handed over the first copy to Chairman and Managing Director of Kakatiya Cement and Sugar Industries P Venkateswarlu.
Director of Vivekananda Institute of Languages Anupamananda Swamy said that works of this kind would make reading of ethics a part of everyday life.
Author Prayaga Ramakrishna and translator D Ranga Rao thanked the dignitaries and said they would continue to do such work in future for the benefit of the society.
