Newly-inducted Union minister of state for tourism (independent charge) K Chiranjeevi has made it clear that he will play a proactive role in the state politics despite his new central assignment.
“I will not keep away from state politics as done by many other central ministers from the state. Though my ministerial headquarters are in Delhi, I will continue focusing on the state politics. I will try to play a proactive role in the state politics by meeting people at least five days in a month,” said Chiranjeevi.
Against the backdrop of Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao’s reluctance to reconcile with the Congress high command, the matinee idol made a significant comment saying, “Those who want to leave the Congress should be allowed to do so as desertions will pave the way for infusion of new blood into the party.”
In an informal chat with reporters at his residence here on Saturday, Chiranjeevi said if some people leave the party, others would get a chance to lead the party. The party leadership should not persuade any leader who decides to quit, he said, adding he followed the same in the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party.
On the chances of the Congress retaining power in 2014 polls by overcoming the anti-incumbency factor, he said, “The Congress successfully retained power even for the third consecutive term in states like Assam. In AP also if all the leaders work together and publicise the welfare schemes of the government extensively, I am sure we will retain power.”
