Mopidevi’s bail hearing adjounred

Express News Service

Justice B Seshasayana Reddy of the AP High Court on Thursday heard the bail petition of former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao, accused number four in the Vanpic episode of YSR Congress leader Jagan Mohan Reddy’s disproportionate assets case.

Mopidevi is presently lodged in Chanchalguda central prison.

During the course of hearing, the judge asked the counsels of the petitioner and the CBI whether any accused in the case moved the Supreme Court and will there be any impediment in taking up the bail application of the accused (Mopidevi).

CBI counsel P Kesava Rao said that Jagan Mohan Reddy, accused number one in the case, has approached the apex court and that the latter issued directions that the accused can apply for bail only after the CBI completes its investigation and files a consolidated charge sheet in the case.

Senior counsel C Padmanabha Reddy, arguing in favour of Mopidevi, told the judge that prima facie there was no impediment in taking up the bail petition as only accused number one has approached the Supreme Court in the case.

During the proceedings, the senior counsel submitted that the investigation into the allegations levelled against Mopidevi is now complete and a charge sheet has been filed by the CBI in this regard, and the question of him hampering the investigation or influencing the witnesses or tampering with the evidence does not arise.

Besides, minister Dharmana Prasad Rao who is accused number five in the case, has been let off by the lower court by accepting a bond though the allegations against him are no different or less than the allegations against Mopidevi.

The senior counsel requested the court for grant of bail to Mopidevi by submitting that the later had acted in compliance with the Business Rules of the state government.

The judge adjourned the case to Monday to hear the CBI’s version.

Actor Vishnu Appears in Court

Tollywood actor Manchu Vishnu appeared in the III additional metropolitan court here on Thursday and made his statement in connection with the case pertaining to his film, ‘Denikaina Ready’.

Vishnu told the court that some persons, who did not like their movie, performed his and his father Mohan Babu’s final rites though they were alive.

And some were involved in attacking and damaging the windowpanes of his house when his mother was alone, he said.

The magistrate posted the matter to December 7 for further hearing.

Vishnu had a tough time coming out of the court premises as members of some Brahmin organisations tried to stop his vehicle.

Police intervened and cleared the way for him.

Two days ago Vishnu had filed a private petition alleging that some persons had conducted his and his father’s final rites.
