With the general election less than a year away, another former bureaucrat has taken a plunge into politics. Retired IAS officer KV Ramanachary joined the Telangana Rashtra Samiti on Sunday and pledged his support to the Telangana movement.
Ramanachary, who took voluntary retirement from government service when he was principal secretary (endowments) a few months ago, formally became a member of the pink party on Sunday.
After formally admitting him into the party by placing a pink kanduva around his shoulders at the Telangana Bhavan here on Sunday, party president K Chandrasekhar Rao praised Ramanachary as a true Telangana supporter.
“Perhaps, many of us don’t know the truth that Ramanachary had participated in the Telangana movement in 1969 and even gone to jail for the cause of statehood to our region. He is a true Telangana votary,” Rao told the gathering.
Lauding Ramanachary as a good administrator, Rao said his vast experience in the government would be very much useful to the pink party and gave enormous strength to the party.
Moments after his formal admission into the party, Ramanachary was inducted into the Politburo.
The retired IAS officer, who hails from Siddipet in Medak district, said he would strive hard to strengthen the TRS and contribute his bit to achieve statehood for the region. Though Ramanachary has not openly divulged his political ambitions, sources say he is eying the Medak Lok Sabha seat and has made a request to the TRS chief to this effect. Medak is now represented by party firebrand and film actress Vijayashanti. But the TRS chief has not made up his mind yet on whom to field from Medak.
As for Ramanachary’s ambitions, Vijayashanti has recently launched a pre-emptive and indirect attack on him.
