Reservation for SCs, STs and BCs in the panchayat raj elections will be finalised between June 12 and 15.

This was revealed by panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy, who held a meeting with senior officials on the matter on Thursday.

He said they were issuing clear guidelines on fixing quota for weaker sections in gram panchayats. “We are strictly going by the rules,” he said.

The minister said that they would submit the district-wise reservation list to the State Election Commission by June 15. The SEC will take a month’s time to complete the process of elections in 21,590 gram panchayats. The reservation to SCs, STs and BCs will be decided by the district collectors.

However, for the first time, the panchayat polls will be held under the provisions of the Panchayats (Extension to the Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996.
