AAI team rules out Basanthnagar airport

Express News Service

In the wake of the Airports Authority of India (AAI)’s decision to convert the Kesoram Cements-owned airfield  at Basanthnarar in Ramagundam mandal into a  regular airport, a 8-member delegation of the AAI visited the airfield on Friday.

However, the delegation, led by R K Singh, found the airfield unsuitable for upgradation as an airport. Located amidst hills, it could not handle big aeroplanes like the Boeing, the delegation told officials. Singh said that an airport could be located only if there was a minimum distance of 15 km between any two hills.
