Indecision on fee likely to delay Eamcet counselling

Express News Service

Counselling for engineering as well as the medical stream for EAMCET-2013 will likely be pushed by a day or two owing to the delay in determining the fee structure for various colleges by the Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC).

While the counselling for engineering stream is likely to commence on June 20, the notification for counselling for medical stream will be issued only by the last week of this month. The notification regarding the first phase of counselling for engineering will likely be issued by Wednesday. AFRC is likely to meet later on in the week to fix the fee structure for medical colleges as well. The classes for first year students in both streams are scheduled to start by August 1 as per the Supreme Court orders.

The ongoing discussions by the AFRC to fix the fee for the three-year period of 2013-16 has gone beyond the stipulated time-frame as the private engineering college managements have been reluctant to furnish details of their accounts. “Around 60 to 80 colleges of the 674 colleges have submitted their details. The remaining do not have accountants and are presenting their cases and grievances orally at the committee meetings,” said an official at the state council of higher education, adding that the state task force committee report has not been taken into account for determining the fee structure.

The online counselling for category B or management quota seats in engineering colleges will begin simultaneously with the first phase of counselling for convener quota seats to minimize the ‘pre-booking’ of slots at tier-I colleges by payment of capitation fee. However, admission to management quota seats in medical stream will continue as per the procedure followed last year, leading to no checks on collection of capitation fee by private college managements, which have been consistently demanding a uniform fee structure for admissions made under different categories.
