Monsoon may arrive in state early

The depression over north Bay of Bengal, near Bangladesh, has set the stage for an early monsoon which is expected to enter Kerala within a couple of days. The monsoon is expected to arrive in Andhra Pradesh next week, three or four days in advance.

“The climatic conditions are favourable for an early monsoon, particularly due to formation of depression over Bay of Bengal near Kolkata. The monsoon is likely to enter the state by June 6,” said the duty officer at CWC.

On Wednesday, the depression lay centered at about 160 km southeast of Kolkata and moved northwards to cross the Bangladesh coast near 70 km west of Khepupara.

Under its influence, rainfall occurred at most places with isolated to heavy rainfalls at many places in the state.

As a result, the temperatures have come down considerably and recorded 2 to 3 degrees Celsius less than normal at most places in the state.  Officials of the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) here predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers over a few places in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema in the next 48 hours.

Isolated rain or thundershowers are also expected in Telangana.

The sea condition will be rough to very rough along and off the eastern coast and fishermen have been warned to be cautious during next 24 hrs.

In the past 24 hours rain occurred over a few places in Rayalaseema and isolated rain occurred in coastal Andhra and Telangana. The highest rainfall of 6 cm was recorded at Devarakonda in Nalgonda district.

The maximum temperatures rose markedly at a few places in the state but went below normal at one or two places in the state.
