Though Singur project, on the river Manjeera, is located in Andole constituency in Medak district, people face acute shortage of drinking and irrigation waters. While the project supplies drinking water to Hyderabad and other parts of the district, the neighbouring Nizamabad district gets its irrigation waters from the project.

However, lands around Singur are parched which has made the farmers in constituency a disgruntled lot. “Though our constituency has been represented by stalwarts of different parties, none of them has done anything to solve our problems. It is currently represented by former deputy CM Damodara Rajanarasimha and was previously represented by his father C Rajanarasimha, TDP leaders M Rajaiah and Babu Mohan, who was also a minister during the TDP regime. Our problems have still remained unsolved,’’ says Lakshmnarayana, a farmer in Pulkal mandal.

Except for giving assurances no efforts have been made by ministers from the constituency, said Ramaiah, another farmer from the same mandal.  The constituency comprises 150 villages of which 100 are totally dependent on borewells for water. The proposed `100-crore drinking water scheme is yet to commence. The Right and Left canals of Singur are yet to be completed.

Unemployment is another issues that is giving people sleepless nights.

The constituency has not been promoted or developed on commercial lines. No industries were set up for economic development. Lack of job opportunities has only forced some youth to migrate to Hyderabad and Mumbai. Given the cost of living of big cities, people thinking of migrating are reconsidering.
